Cloverfield

There isn’t much to say about this movie except it is worth seeing one time. The home video look of it really makes it difficult to watch, but it displays an excellent concept. Everything the audience knows about what’s going on comes from the footage presented on-screen, and despite some obvious conceits, it was pulled off rather well. The problem is it isn’t a movie that warrants a second viewing (except perhaps to catch a glimpse of the origin of the monster—it is in there, but you have to look carefully). Not an Academy Award-winning film by any means, but more meat than one usually can find in 80 minutes.

The Bourne Ultimatum

If you like action movies (and you’ve seen the previous two films in the trilogy), you owe it to yourself to check out this movie. Though it uses a tad bit more shakycam than Supremacy, it was nonstop awesome, and is probably the finest action film of the year. All around, rockin’.

Grade: A (for awesome!)

Movie Reviews: Order of the Phoenix, Transformers

Order of the Phoenix group shotI have a chronic condition where I have to schedule time to go see movies in the theater. I don’t know why this is now the case, but I find it extremely difficult to decide on a whim to go see a movie. I managed to break out of this pattern last week when I decided to go see Transformers, thanks in no small part to the goading of friends and siblings, eagerly referring to it as the coolest movie they’d ever seen. Not to break tradition, however, I also reserved a ticket for the newest cinema installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in the local IMAX theater. Following are my brief impressions of both films. I’ll do my best to keep it spoiler-free.

07/07/07

It’s a lot like last year’s dreaded 06/06/06, except it holds more value for those who like to gamble.

I had it on my todo list to go see Transformers, but never got around to it. So I’ll probably try to see it next week and make it a double movie week with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on IMAX on Friday. I’m pretty psyched for that.

It truly is a shame that I have quite a bit of homework to do for Discrete Structures, though.

Homework Mania

Well, this time it actually is the end of the month. Some crazy stuff has been going on: school, work, Thanksgiving, more school, video games, movies, school. There sure is lots of stuff to keep me busy enough to not update this blog, anyway.

Saw Casino Royale the day it opened. Awesome flick. Also picked up Painkiller from GoGamer for a measly ten bucks and I am already stuck at the second boss. I had to quit, though because I had a nice hefty research paper and presentation to get ready for my computer architecture class. Now that that’s done, I get to do a ton of Calc homework and work on my Software Engineering project.

Oh, and then there are finals…
