In some kind of circular fashion, I am updating this blog to say that I updated the main page of my domain for the first time in over two years. Hooray! I went through three different looks and ended up using the most simple (the others were too stylized), and I wanted something simple with subtle colors.
Who knows, it may be up for the next two years as well.
I can’t believe that I’ve never written anything about work on this so-called blog of mine, but apparently not. Therefore I am now obligated to do so, as I have just started a new job and may from time to time share some amusing anecdotes from my adventures in the land of technical support. Because of the nature of my new job, this is almost a given.
In other news, I also upgraded to WordPress 2.1 since apparently it has been quite a while since I installed a new version. Apparently it is spiffier. I am tired now and don’t feel like finishing the rest of this paragraph.
I finally got around to changing the theme for this old blog. This is something I’ve been meaning to do for some time. I wanted to design my own theme, but I don’t really think I’ll be able to find the time for that.
As I was assisting my boss this past week with debugging a WordPress plugin, I noticed how intricate WordPress’ interface is. The extension was not particularly well-written; it output XHTML that did not jive with the W3 validator, which is inexcusable these days. We eventually found a hack that fixed the issue, but after looking at the source for the plugin, I was somewhat disgusted.
It was time for that old, ugly, and blue front page to go. In its place I have a sort of temporary placeholder page that has a few links to the most important stuff on the site. It isn’t exactly finished because I am still working on the logo and background graphics.
I should probably get something informative up on the Quatschbox site, since what’s up there certainly doesn’t help understand what it is supposed to do.
I finally took the time to update the blog software to the latest version. I must say, this new version is quite sweet. It really is a nicely manufactured piece of software, and is quite an inspiration (read: I might steal some ideas to put into Quatschbox :D)
Update: Since the new version has more robust spam-blocking tools, I have opened up the comments again, hopefully for good.
